Anthropocene

Anthropocene is an art exhibit about how humans have profoundly affected the landscape of the earth since the Industrial Revolution. Has the manner in which artists depict the landscape changed? If so, why? This exhibit showcases artists’ observations and rendering of the landscape and explores the rational for the artist’s choices of subject, style, materials and methods. A wide range of contemporary renditions of the landscape are explored (from idealized to realistic to abstract).

Exhibition Opening Reception: May 10 from 5 to 9 pm

'YOU ARE HERE | EXIT UNLIKELY' on view at Alexander Hall from October 5-21 . Reception October 19, 6-8pm ..

SCAD presents "YOU ARE HERE | EXIT UNLIKELY |,” an M.F.A. thesis exhibition by Patricia K. Hecht. The artist’s thesis work considers architecture and mapping as modes to explore the intersections of political, social or historical structures that are intrinsically tied to identities of persons inhabiting various spaces. Hecht creates two-dimensional works through carefully drawn, straight black line, playing with the tension between an overall abstract image, and a sense of movement, through the variation of line weight.

These abstracted paintings are sourced from public images of floor plans, urban sites, or aerial views of roads which the artist reconfigures and repeats into dense, impenetrable patterns, orienting viewers not in the logic of planned spaces, but rather a dizzying maze without exit.
